Events

All events apart from J13s and J14s take place in Morning and Afternoon Divisions - competitors (including coxes, boats and blades) may NOT double up within a division.

J13 and J14 events will take place throughout the day. No one competing (in any capacity) in a J13 or J14 event can compete in any other event (this also applies to boats and blades). There will be 'Plate' events for first-round losers in J13 and J14 crew (not 1x) events where possible.

See the FAQs at the bottom of this page for more on doubling up.

FAQs relating to doubling up

Q. Lucy is sculling in a WJ14 4x+. We know she can't double up in J14 but can she cox our J15 4+? She wouldn't be too tired as the second event is just coxing.
A. No. Competitors in J13 and J14 events can enter one event in the entire regatta only. This is to avoid impossible timetabling given there are plate events for J14 crew events (subject to sufficient entries). So the fact that it's a different age group, and that it wouldn't wear her out as she'd only be rowing in on event is irrelevant.

Q. Our J14 4x+ and J154x+ are sharing a boat. Is that OK?
A. No. You can risk it, and it might work out for you, especially if one crew loses in an early round, but we are unable to accommodate doubling up (and that includes boats) between any J14 event and any other event.

Q. Our J13 4x+ is really good and would like to race at J14 as well to see if they can beat the bigger boys. Can they?
A. No. Competitors in J13 (and J14) events can only race in one event in the regatta. You could enter them in J14 4x+ INSTEAD of J13 4x+, though.

Other important information about Entries

  1. ENTRIES CLOSE at 9am ON SATURDAY, 11 May 2013, or sooner if the regatta is becoming too full.
  2. You can contact the Hon Entries Secretary, Helena Smalman-Smith, at entries@thamesdittonregatta.co.uk or on 07765 237166.
  3. In the event of the regatta being over-subscribed, your entry may be rejected. The basis on which this will be done will depend on the entries received.
  4. We aim for racing to start at about 8.30am.
  5. We will only run an event if it has four or more entries. This is to help ensure quality racing, and so that competitors in events which attract points don't gain points "lightly". Competitors are asked to indicate on their entry if they are not prepared to be moved up to higher status events.
  6. Please ensure that your OE details include a contact phone number that will be answered on the afternoon of Saturday, 11 May 2013, in case we need to contact you about your entries. A school switchboard number is not appropriate.
  7. Entries cost £10 per rowing seat (£80 for Eights/Octs, £40 for Fours/Quads, £20 for Doubles. £10 for Singles).
  8. Please DO NOT pay by credit card in OE when you make your entry! We appreciate that this sounds like an odd request. However, not all events you have entered will necessarily run because we only run events if they have at least 4 entries, and if we are unable to move any such crews to another convenient/acceptable event, we would have to give you a refund if you had already paid by credit card. However, the card processing charges would still be deducted, so this would cost us money.

Therefore, please pay on OE only once we have confirmed/accepted your entries. We would also be happy to receive cheques during the week before the regatta, or on the day.

Cheques should be made payable to ‘Thames Ditton Regatta’ and should have the club and events to which they apply written on the back. If you want to send them in advance, send them to:

    Helena Smalman-Smith
    Hon. Entries Secretary
    11 Quinton Road
    Thames Ditton
    Surrey
    KT7 0AX
  9. Under no circumstances will the timetable be changed after the draw (unless it's our mistake). Any likely change of status should be noted on the entry (e.g. if you are entering a race the previous weekend), and you should contact the secretary on 07765 237166 by the end of Sunday, 12 May 2013 if you are no longer eligible to race at the status at which you entered.
  10. All races are upstream over a distance of approximately 1000 metres with a free start. The course starts by Thames Ditton Island and finishes just downstream of the River Mole. The course will be buoyed.
